Creamy snowman-shaped cheese bites with olive details, perfect for festive gatherings and easy entertaining.

# What you need:

→ Cheese Base

01 - 8.8 oz cream cheese, softened
02 - 3.5 oz grated mozzarella cheese
03 - 2 tbsp sour cream
04 - 1/4 tsp garlic powder
05 - 1/4 tsp onion powder
06 - Salt and pepper, to taste

→ Decoration

07 - 12 small mozzarella balls (bocconcini or ciliegine)
08 - 36 thin black olive slices
09 - 12 small carrot tips
10 - 24 pretzel sticks
11 - Fresh chives or parsley, finely chopped (optional)
12 - Crackers or sliced baguette, for serving

# Steps to follow:

01 - Combine cream cheese, grated mozzarella, sour cream, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Mix thoroughly until smooth and uniform.
02 - Shape the cheese mixture by hand into 12 large, slightly flattened balls, approximately 2 tablespoons each. Arrange them on a serving platter to allow edges to drip slightly for a melted appearance.
03 - Top each base with one small mozzarella ball, pressing gently to adhere and form the head.
04 - Apply black olive slices as buttons on the body and eyes on the head. Attach small carrot tips as noses. Insert two pretzel sticks into each side of the base to create arms. Optionally, wrap finely chopped chives or parsley around the neck as scarves.
05 - Present immediately with crackers or sliced baguette.

# Expert tips:

01 -
  • They're so simple to make that even the kids can help assemble them, turning dinner prep into a family adventure.
  • No baking required—just mix, shape, and decorate, so you can pull these together in under 30 minutes flat.
  • They're naturally vegetarian and gluten-free (if you swap the pretzels and crackers), making them inclusive for almost any gathering.
02 -
  • The pretzel arms must go in at the very last moment before serving, or they'll soften and lose their crunch—learned this the hard way when a platter sat out for an hour.
  • Room temperature cream cheese is absolutely essential. I've tried using cold cream cheese, and it creates lumps that no amount of mixing will fix, ruining the smooth texture.
  • If your mozzarella balls won't stick, you can use a tiny dab of cream cheese as adhesive between the base and the head. It's like edible glue.
03 -
  • Keep your hands slightly damp when shaping the cheese balls—it prevents them from sticking to your fingers and gives you better control.
  • Arrange everything on the platter just before serving to keep the presentation fresh and the pretzel arms crispy for that perfect bite.
